What a great story to wake up to this morning.
A new life, bought into this world in the back of a Taxi.
I haven't got the details yet but if anyone knows the driver and what the circumstances were I will re edit as we go along.
Brings back a few memories!
About 40 years ago I stopped for a young man furiously flagging me, jumping up and down in Elgin Avenue by the lights at Shirland Road. He was really pumped up with excitement and could hardly talk.
At first I was a bit weary of him, but he explained his wife needed to be taken to St Mary's Paddington rather quickly as she was about to give birth.
We got round to Lanhill Road and she was led out by another woman. But as she lifted her leg up to get in the cab she screamed "Its coming, it's coming"
She laid on the floor of the cab and within what seamed like just a few seconds we had another passenger.
By then the ambulance had arrived and the paramedics took over. The young lady and new arrival were tended too by the professionals and soon were transferred to the ambulance and although the man offered a fist full of notes for he mess (which I refused) within seconds every one had gone.
As I lived in Kilburn Park road I didn't have far to go to clean up the cab. Fantastic experience.
All I know, it was a boy who now would be around 40. And I saw him enter this world in my cab.
As Marc Turner said when posting the photo on FaceBook today, I hope when this baby is told "you were born in the back of a black cab" it doesn't say "what was a black cab"
