The On The Streets Of London Awards....And The Winner Is....by I'm Spartacus.

At last nights 'On the Streets of London Awards' the clear winner as voted by billions of passengers throughout the world in the innovation and service category was:

The London Taxi.

It's innovative idea of having a highly skilled driver with the passenger just having to raise an arm or visit a rank outside every good hotel, railway station or store is a proven success.

Most cabs also take contactless credit cards and all will do so from October, there are also many smartphone Taxi apps and Radio cabs available

Other great features include 100% access for wheelchairs, accessibility and clear pricing.

Everyone can use them, even if you don't have a smart phone. Not sure of the address... the fantastically knowledgeable driver in their purpose designed vehicle will get you there.

The judging panel stated 'no other product even came close'.

'The total reliance on one form of technology such as Sat Nav with its inability to understand the dynamic nature of the streets, the poor quality driving standards, data security, taxation and personal safety incident records were key factors in ruling out a somewhat ragged group of also rans.'

Will 2017 keep the winning run of over 350 years going?

Prediction is a certain yes and it will surely be the biggest non event since Boris Johnson who like all uber inflated interlopers just fade away into ignominy.

So Londoners and visitors alike will continue to hail the success that is, The London Taxi

I'm Spartacus.

Evening Standard Tobacco Dock Awards Protest : TfL Ignore Uber Touting In Street.

With military precision, Dads Defending Daughters marched into Pennington Street Wapping, to protest against Uber being up for awards at the Evening Standard business awards being held at Tobacco Dock.

As the guests arrived, they were greeted by the banners and posters showing the despicable statistics being hidden from the general public by the mainstream media.

The protestors were very vocal but, apart from making noise, it all went extremely peaceful. See video.

When all the guests we're inside, the protest disbanded allowing the presentations to take place.
But unexpectedly, just before the evening ended, the protestors returned. This time accompanied by many Taxis, causing completely gridlock the to surrounding area.

As guests left, they found they could not access their promotional uber codes, many guests believing it was done purposely as Uber did not receive their expected award.

Could the judges have been swayed by the banners, posters, leaflets and mega phone sound bites, given out as everyone arrived?

Instead the award for the category Uber were in went to Aldi, the cheap supermarket chain. They didn't even get the Tech award which went to restaurant delivery firm Deliveroo.

Because the signal outage, the uber app was down.
Uber sent along staff members in bright blue t-shirts with big white squares on the breast pockets.

These employees were openly touting custom, using hand held devises to sign up new customers offering £25 off vouchers as enticement.

Amazingly the 6 TfL PCOs who were in attendance from 5pm, were by now nowhere to be seen as the open touting took place.

Uber cars were seen using the petrol station on the Highway as an impromptu rank. Cars were seen going into the court yard of the garage, waiting to recieve a message then moving out without buying petrol or even visiting the forecourt shop.

Tweet of the night award goes to CabbyDenny.

Female Uber Driver Found Hanged. "Appears to be suicide" Say Police.

Veerath Bharathi, Uber’s first female cab driver in India, was found dead in her rented house in the city’s northwest suburb, police said on Tuesday, June 28.

“It appears to be a case of suicide, as the victim’s (V. Bharathi) body was found hanging by a cloth-like rope from the ceiling of a room by her landlord on Monday night,” Sanjay Nagar police inspector Prakash said.

Though no suicide note was found in her house, police registered a case of unnatural death and shifted the body to a state-run hospital for autopsy to ascertain the cause of Bharathi’s death.

“The landlord went to the third floor of his house where Bharathi was staying in the rented portion to check her whereabouts as he did not see her again since Sunday night and found her body hanging through the room’s window and alerted us,” Prakash recalled.

Bharathi, who hails from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, was staying alone in the house as she was single and orphaned. Her cab was found parked in front of the house in Nagashettyhalli colony.

“As per our records, Bharathi was one of the early women taxi drivers in the city and joined the all-women cab service, Angel City Cabs two years ago and later registered her vehicle with Uber, the online Minicab firm,” Prakash added.

The London Taxi driver, Is Your Knight In Shinning Armour.

A Taxi driver friend of mine, recently picked up a young opera singer (Melinda Hughes), who told him about a nightmare date she had recently been on.

Feeling unsure and unsafe about her companion, she started to worry about getting home.
She tried texting a few friends to come and save her, but no one seemed free that evening.

It was then she remembered the Hailo app on her smartphone.

The driver text back within minutes, saying he was outside.

Telling her date she was going to powder her nose, she slipped unnoticed out of the restaurant, into the waiting Hailo cab, which took home safely home.

Melinda told my friend she had relayed the story to a professional colleague (Jeremy Lamb) who then wrote a song about her disastrous date. She went on to say, together they had published a promotional version on YouTube.

After giving my friend an impromptu performance in the back of his cab, Malinda explained all monies raised from the click rights, would be donated to the London Taxi Benevolent Association.

So please watch the video and pass the link on to friends and family.

They Don't Like It Up Em Gov....Will TfL Stick To Their Promise?

There has been a call to immediately suspend the implementation of changes to Private Hire regulations which come into force today (27 June 2016).

The Chairman of the Licensed Private Hire Car Association, Steve Wright, has called for a halt on the new rules after being “Inundated with e‐mails, calls and other communications from Licensed Operators and Drivers, with grave concerns” since the announcement from TfL of the launch date on 17th June.

In an email addressed to Transport for London, Taxi and Private Hire licensing officials, Mr Wright wrote: “It is clear there is serious confusion surrounding many of the new requirements, not only within the industry but also from the main PHV Insurers, vehicle hirers, accident management companies and others. The trade representatives believe there is the need for considerable dialogue with TfL TPH before proceeding further.”

He added; “We believe the immediate suspension of the implementation is required to avoid unnecessary risks for the travelling public and extreme hardship, worry and stress for licensed operators and drivers. It has been collectively agreed between the signatories that there has not been enough information and dialogue about the finer details of the new requirements. Major regulatory changes need a workable plan to be put in place alongside a realistic timeline for the industry to make the transition sensibly.”

An emergency meeting has been called to bring together London’s main PHV trade associations, insurers, vehicle hirers and accident management companies to establish then discuss the problems.
